Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will meet “one way or another.” This announcement follows Putin’s meeting with Steve Witkoff, a special envoy of the U.S. leader, in St. Petersburg, where key aspects of the Ukraine crisis were discussed.
Peskov emphasized the political will of both leaders to hold this meeting “at the right time.” This optimism contrasts with recent strained relations but signals a potential shift toward renewed dialogue. The spokesman also stressed the need for proper preparation, suggesting both sides are serious about addressing long-standing issues.
Since February 18, when a rapprochement process began with a meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Moscow and Washington have maintained active talks. Negotiations in Istanbul in late February and a second round this week indicate a concerted effort to resolve persistent conflicts.
A Putin-Trump meeting could mark a turning point in bilateral relations, particularly as the Ukraine war remains a central concern. The world watches closely as these nuclear powers navigate their next steps—and what they could mean for global stability.
